Fishing is Apparently Dangerous

For the last week or so, I have only needed one of the Dalaran Fishing dailies to complete the achievement (Chasing Marcia).  Last night, it popped up: Dangerously Delicious.  This quest requires you to fish up ten Terrorfish, which can only be found in Wintergrasp.

Following the advice of someone on Wowhead, I went looking for a fabled spot on the southeast edge of Wintergrasp where you can fish in the zone while still being outside of it, and therefore not PVPable.  It’s not that I have a problem with PVP.  It’s just that, with the majority of Wintergrasp’s population being level 80, my wimpy little 71 rogue self hasn’t much of a chance of surviving long.  Unfortunately, I think I found the spot.  I couldn’t get to it without a flying mount.  Therefore, this strategy wasn’t going to work for me.  (Ceire is only 75.  Until she makes 77, neither of them will be flying in Northrend.)

I went to Dalaran, deciding to risk going in by the portal – and I couldn’t see it.  I checked the PVP panel, and it looked like the battle was starting in the next ten minutes, so I’m guessing that’s why.  I went off to do other things, and came back a couple of hours later.  The portal was there.

I went through the portal, not knowing what to expect, and saw that we had (fortunately, I guess) won the last fight and we owned the fortress.  I saw a nice little bunch of ponds to the west, and decided they were close enough to relative safety to be worth trying.  (I figure my choices are to try to be somewhere safe-ish, or to be somewhere no one is likely to go.  Both options have advantages and disadvantages, obviously.)  I go riding on my merry way towards the ponds.

It shouldn’t have been a surprise to me, and so I don’t know why it was, but the mobs were level 80.  I’ll reiterate – I’m only 71.  A level 80 mob is a fierce opponent to me.  By using Vanish and Sprint, I managed to get to a spot that was more or less safe from mobs at the moment, and I pulled out my fishing pole.

The actual fishing didn’t take too long.  I probably caught one Terrorfish in every three or four casts.  The whole time, I’m nervously watching my surroundings, though I also had a sense that it didn’t really matter.  I couldn’t do much if I were to be attacked by a mob, and even less if I was attacked by a player.

Just as I fished up the tenth fish, something 80ish and red (read: Horde) in a dress came up and smacked me.  I didn’t even have time to see his class or what he did to me.  I was dead in three hits, and he looted me so I was forced back to the graveyard before I could get a closer look.  Fortunately, autoloot saved me from having to go back for more, as the last fish did successfully make it into my bags.  If I’d had to loot manually, I don’t think I’d have made it.  As soon as I was alive again, I hearthed my low level self right out of there to turn in the quest and get the achievement.

Yay!
